Before you decide on a cat especially a long haired , such as a Persian please think about the amount of care they need on a daily basis, and if you have enough spare time to meet their needs.
Brushing and combing the coat on a daily basis is a must to keep the coat in a knot free condition, and the skin free from sore patches and infections. I have had Persians come in before with urine soaked knotted coats, after the coat has been removed they are burnt by there own urine, they are red and very sore.
Eye care should also be carried out daily, to avoid eye infections.I had a girl come in recently whos owners had always wanted a persian but did not realize how much facial care they would need this is her.Persians are very pretty cats but they dont stay that way on there own.
If you do not have the time or commitment then a Persian is not for you
This is what I found when I cleaned all the eye waste off her eyes were very sore and had to be cleaned 3 times per day and treated with anti biotic cream.Lack of knowledge was to blame for the state this poor girl was in.
Persians and long haired cats moult especially in the spring when there heavy winter coat is shed special attention should be paid to the coat at this time in preparation for the summer months.
